owl love - 2012 calendar

i've discovered a blog all about owls and i am in love.  My Owl Barn has so many fun owl-themed things featured.  if you are a fan (or know someone who is hint, hint) this is a great site for all things owl-like.  there are lots of free printables and DIY tutorials too.  check out the 2012 calendar.  45 artists collaborated to create a beautiful FREE calendar for download.  you can print the pre-made calendar or pick and choose which images you like.  look at some of these beauties!

seattle art museum

this past weekend i had a little me time visiting friends in seattle.  it's not the first time i've been there so i didn't feel pressured to do all of the standard touristy things (though i did make a stop at the market to pick up some tea).

but first, we went to see tori amos in concert at the paramount.  she is an amazing artist and it was great seeing her live again!  this time she had a quartet with two violins, a cello, and a viola accompanying her.  it was beautiful.

we also went to the seattle art museum (SAM) and checked out some awesome displays.  here are a few of my favorites...

what's cookin' wednesday - lion's mane mushroom

it's been so long you've probably forgotten about the surprise from our oregon trip i mentioned.  well, the time has come to share the surprise.  when we attended the wild mushroom festival, we discovered an awesome company that helps you grow your own "wild" mushrooms.  after placing our brick in a fruiting chamber and (impatiently) waiting just a few weeks, i am proud to say we successfully grew some delicious lion's mane!  so far we pan-fried some with butter and garlic and we've also made an incredible lion's mane pizza.  i'm so excited this worked!  if you know any mushroom lovers out there, this would be a great, unique gift. grow your own mushrooms!
