as saraya begins welcoming solids into her diet, justin and i have been excitedly researching what to feed her. so far she has had rice cereal, peas, green beans, avocado, pumpkin, squash, sweet potato, carrot and chickpeas. her definite favorites are squash and avo. i'm hesitant to add anything sweeter than she's already had until she's really well established with her veggies. justin thinks we have a really good eater on our hands and that there's nothing to worry about. i think he's just having way too much fun prepping her food. i'm not complaining (though it would be nice if he were that excited about making our food too).
in our research, we've found many lists and recipes for baby foods...
top 5: apple, avocado, pumpkin, sweet potato, carrot
best 10: squash, lentils, dark green leafy veggies, broccoli, blueberries, avocados, meat, prunes, garbanzo beans, and mandarin oranges
top ten first foods: applesauce, banana, pear, squash, carrots and parsnip, brown rice, quinoa, plain whole milk yogurt, avocado, egg yolk
and so on, and so on. now, some of these lists contradict each other and what some experts say you should and shouldn't feed babies new to solids. so we're trying to keep it simple and watch her for any reactions. so far so good. we've even added some spices like cumin and cinnamon. she really likes them.
probably her favorite so far has been avocado mixed with butternut squash with a dash of cinnamon. we thought it was pretty tasty too!
what kinds of foods do you guys recommend? a lot of you have been there, done that and it's nice to get personal recommendations.
Alright NIECEY!! Great job on making the food you guys!! But here's my suggestion (ok you knew i was gonna be the jokester)
ReplyDeleteU know McDonalds makes a nice snack that she's able to hold on her own and feed herself...that's right a French Fry LOL.
Just teasing.. U hit all the good foods in your list, especially the naturally sweet ones.
Jeremy's fave food so far is peas!! So easy to make too!
ReplyDeleteI definitely second the plain whole milk yogurt. I've fed it to all my kids as babies and they still love it with fresh fruit (and now, honey, since they are old enough for it).
