it's a hate/love thing

here are 10 things i hate and love about pregnancy:



10. i hate learning my limitations - it's humbling needing help doing simple things but i love being waited on hand and foot by my loving husband :)



9. i hate fatigue - i'm a nap person but really?! however, i do love that it's teaching me to slow down and appreciate that i can take naps



8. i HATE heartburn - it doesn't matter what type of food it is; i love the idea that it means she'll have a full head of hair (what?! can't some old wives' tales be true?)



7. itchy belly sucks! but getting a nightly tummy rubdown with body butter is pretty awesome!



6. i hate when strangers want to ask when you're due but are afraid to assume you're not just fat and i love that kids just come right out ask if you're pregnant.



5. it really irks me when people feel the need to tell you you're crazy for your birth plans and choices - unsolicited advice is ok but making me feel awkward for my thoughts and feelings is not! on the other hand, it can be a real comfort to hear some been there, done that stories.



4. i really do not enjoy being unable to sleep on my stomach and having to stick a pillow between my legs to relieve my hip pain. i do love my snoogle.



3. i hate hormones - i mean there are some moments i feel RIDICULOUSLY emotional and i haven't broken out with acne like this since high school... but i love it when people tell me i'm glowing and look so happy - because i am!



2. information overload! sometimes the amount of information about pregnancy, labor etc can be completely overwhelming but if none of it were available i'd be just as stressed out in the other direction so i guess overall i'm loving the ease with which i can access info about all that stuff.



1. being far away from our families can be pretty inconvenient but since we love to travel it works out that we'll be visiting them all soon!

what do you want to do before you die?

i woke up from a nap and caught the tail end of an Oprah show featuring 4 guys with a TV show and website called The Buried Life. it's about these friends that ask the question, "what do you want to do before you die?" they asked themselves and came up with a list of 100 things ranging from the fun and silly (playboy mansion antics anyone?) to the lofty though not impossible (shooting hoops with President Obama). they travel across the nation in order to accomplish these things and along the way decide to pose the question to people they meet and help strangers with their own wishes. these guys do some pretty amazing things for strangers and are inspiring a lot of people to not only dream and try to make those dreams come true, but also to be philanthropic. i like it a lot.

i like it so much that i'm going to do my own version. imitation is the sincerest form of flattery... stay tuned!

april showers...

will bring the most beautiful may flower into our lives! two of the coolest things about baby showers (besides celebrating with friends and loved ones)? cupcakes and tiaras!

baby showers, easter brunch, and earthquakes - oh my!

yesterday was Saraya's baby shower. it was a wonderful celebration and a great reminder that there are a lot of people that are excited to meet our little one. we wish all of our family and friends could have been there to share in the joy personally but we realize just how many people we know and love around this great big world. it just means we'll have a lot of traveling to do ;) in the meantime, pictures are forthcoming, but they weren't taken on my camera so be patient!

today was an absolutely gorgeous easter sunday. we enjoyed a fantastic brunch in La Jolla and then attempted to walk some of it off along the shore. it's pupping season so we saw lots of adorable baby seals sunning themselves on the rocks. we really love living here.

yes, even though this area can be prone to natural disasters, it's still an amazing place to reside. there was a small tremor that caught our attention but is it bad that the most noticeable part of the earthquake was that every other dog in the neighborhood was going crazy while these two lazy mutts barely rolled over in their sleep?!

april fools' day!

some years this day has passed with little to no fanfare. other days, i've been party to or victim of some pretty complex pranks. i was wondering about the origins of the holiday and whether or not it's recognized in other parts of the world. apparently, the french celebrate poisson d'avril, or "april fish." children tape a picture of a fish to a schoolmate's back and cry out poisson d'avril! when it's discovered. ah, to be so easily amused again... what's your most memorable prank?
