one week

justin is the BEST dad ever.  he took the pandi on a father daughter bonding trip (hence the lack of toddler pictures this week) and they are having the time of their lives.  they've been gone a week and i miss them both terribly.  just one more week until our little family is reunited!  then we'll be mushroom hunting and jumping into piles of leaves together...

in the meantime, best dad has been sending me daily phone pics to keep me sane.  i can't figure out how to get them from my text messages onto the computer but here's one from just before they left that makes me smile.

DIY necklace holder

have any of you checked out pinterest yet?  if you follow me, you may have seen this nifty little necklace holder on one of my boards.  i instantly thought it was too easy not to try making myself and i was certain it wouldn't cost me the $50 or more i've seen people charging.  so i set off to anthropologie to find the cutest drawer knobs for my project.  there are lots of cheaper knobs available in other places, but i really loved these!  and i used one of my 50% coupons to get the finished cherry wood plaque from Michaels but again, there are many other options for the wood depending on the size, if you prefer finished or unfinished, etc.  what do you think?
mushrooms and buttons and owls, oh my!

what i wore wednesday - still transitioning

i love this outfit!  this is me stretching out another summer dress into the fall season.  i think one of the best feelings is when a complete stranger stops you to say that they love your outfit and that happened to me!  even though we should dress for ourselves, there's something about someone else validating your taste that just plain feels good.  i often tell people i know that i like their hair or jewelry but i never really compliment strangers.  maybe it's a fear of looking like a weirdo stalker but that's dumb.  the next time i feel the urge to compliment a stranger, i just need to remember how good it feels, how much it might mean to that person and pay it forward...

baby shower, birthday party, and bikram

what a FULL weekend i had! i managed to pack in some crafting and baking, the zoo walk, a baby shower, hot yoga, a little goodwill trip, farmer's market, a birthday party, a knitting lesson, a sewing lesson, and two dinners with friends. i got so much done! i don't have pictures of everything but here are a few highlights...
i made this letter for the baby nook as inspired by this wall...

excited parents!

FINALLY sewing that pillowcase dress for the pandi!  yes, i know it is no longer summer but the point is that i'm learning...

and it might be a little big but that just means she'll be able to wear it when it gets warmer again.  i'll post a picture of her wearing it soon!

thank you to Adeline for the sewing lesson!  and Norma for the knitting lesson (part 2 coming up later this week).  she's helping me make a beanie.  i also plan on posting some pictures of the other projects i've been working on for an earring display and necklace holder.
is anyone working on anything they'd like to share?

bates nut farm

bates nut farm in valley center has the largest pumpkin patch in san diego county.  this past weekend we took Saraya there to pick out our pumpkins and check out the art fair.  there was also a petting zoo, food trucks, live music, horse carriage rides, tractor rides and more.  traffic was a bit ridiculous but once we got inside, the crowd wasn't bad at all.

a little unsure about her new ride...

is it okay to pet?

pat the bunny (great book)

so soft!

queen of the pumpkin patch!

i love that it looks like she's trying to push the wheelbarrow

breast cancer awareness month

Image Detail
this october marks the 25th anniversary of national breast cancer awareness month.  except for skin cancer, breast cancer is the most common cancer among american women.  breast cancer awareness month is meant to educate people about the disease, risk factors, and treatment.  there are campaigns everywhere you look from the white house, to the NFL.  find an event near you like a 5K, or a fundraiser to support but most importantly, check yourself and have your loved ones check themselves too!
